Scotland to Newcastle Ferry

Over the centuries the entire Tynemouth priory complex was built and surrounded by defensive walls. After the dissolution of the priory in 1539, the site was transformed into a royal castle, and gun emplacements built to counter the threat of Spanish invasion.
